0800 numbers mean that companies can change premises or phones without having to change their numbers and potentially lose a lot of customers – but when buying them remember to ask the right questions so you don’t get charged a fortune to do so.

Some business telecoms companies charge a small administration fee to offset the time taken while others provide this service for free. If the fee is hefty and you know you may need to frequently change the destination number then perhaps you need to consider another company. It's a good idea to eliminate the chance of any nasty surprises in the form of a large administration fee.
Also find out how you can physically change your destination number. Is it achieved by filling out a form on a website or can it be done by your company online? Ask the reseller how long it will take to redirect your 0800 number - is it instantly while you are on the phone or does it take a working day?
